July features several planets in Cancer opposing Jupiter in Capricorn. The main theme for this month will focus on how we can balance and harmonize our need for security (Cancer) with our desire for accomplishment in the outer world (Capricorn).
The New Moon occurs on July 2 at 11 degrees of Cancer. Cancer themes include the home, real estate, family, mother, feelings, moods, nurturing and security. This lunation is aligned with both Ceres and Venus, which means that throughout this month we will be especially preoccupied with how we nurture ourselves and our relationships. We might also contemplate how well we nurture ourselves within our relationships, as well as give and receive nurturing from our partners. Does the nurturing feel balanced or one-sided? How can we better communicate our needs for nurturing within our relationships? Since this is also a super moon, we may experience some heightened emotional reactions within ourselves or from others.
Formerly an asteroid, Ceres has recently been reclassified as a dwarf planet. In Roman and Greek mythology, Ceres was known as the goddess of agriculture and the harvest, and also as "earth mother." In a birth chart, it indicates nurturing received as a child and the capacity to nurture in adulthood. Individuals with a prominent Ceres can be good caretakers, or they can work with food, plants or in another healing capacity. Ceres will be in Cancer until late August.
The US chart is ruled by Cancer and will be challenged this year by some major planetary cycles. The US chart has a difficult alignment between Mars and Neptune that is now being activated by transiting Uranus, which will continue into spring of 2009. In the past, this aspect has brought dramatic earth change events, such as the eruption of Mount St. Helens and the San Francisco quake. As we have already seen a record number of tornadoes and floods this year, it is wise to be prepared for more drastic events on all levels as the year unfolds. Uranus will likely bring to light many hidden truths about important events and people. Saturn, the celestial taskmaster, will conjoin and intensify this aspect in November, when it aligns with the US Neptune (and opposes Uranus on Election Day). It is quite likely that we are in for some major revelations and other surprising events this year.
The week of July 2-8 should be good for travel and recreation, as both the sun and Venus are aligned with expansive, beneficent Jupiter. With a strong alignment of Mercury and Uranus in mid-week, we may find our ideas challenged by others or there may be a need to adjust to some sudden and unexpected occurrences. The Mercury/Venus trine on July 6 should bring us some needed calming energy, if we remember to slow down and take time for ourselves.
On July 9-10, there will be an alignment of Saturn and Mars in Virgo. This is a more structured and disciplined type of energy and will favor becoming more organized and task-oriented. It is an excellent time to make changes in one's diet, daily health habits and exercise. It would be favorable to be more cautious and take good personal care this week, as one's immunity is often lower at this time (especially if this aspect is prominent in the natal chart). On July 14 and 15, we will have some favorable Mercury aspects to this Mars/Saturn alignment to bring in some needed opportunities for greater awareness or goal achievement.
On July 18, a Full Moon will occur at 26 degrees of Capricorn. On the next day, Mercury opposes Jupiter in Cancer/Capricorn. Capricorn themes include authority, structure, organization, recognition, ambition, patience and goal orientation. Now is a good time to get in touch with our higher ideals and how well we are manifesting them in our daily lives. If we are lacking in outer security, we might contemplate how to create more security on inner levels. Capricorn energy favors taking small steps each day in a desired direction.
On July 22 we receive a burst of fiery energy as the sun enters Leo. July 26 is the most energetic day in these last few weeks of the month, when Mars in Virgo favorably aligns with Jupiter. Any activity requiring a lot of physical energy should go more smoothly at this time.
On July 27-29, Venus in Leo aligns with the South Node of the moon. This cycle can bring back partners from the past or karmic relationship lessons that still need completion. Issues with power and control may surface at this time. The South Node energy can pull us back from our path of greater growth (North Node), so there may be a need for release, forgiveness of self and others, and reorientation. The main point is to keep from getting stuck in the past in an obsessive way.
August is a blue moon month, with two new moons that are also eclipses. On August 1 a New Moon, Solar Eclipse, will occur at 9 degrees of Leo. This eclipse is aligned with Mercury and the asteroid Vesta. Leo rules children, creative endeavors, recreation, generosity, confidence and risk-taking. We might ask ourselves how we can bring more enjoyment and creativity into our lives this month. Mercury suggests making some plans and scheduling it into our daily routine. Vesta rules our need for security, as well as our capacity for focus and concentration. This would be a good month to begin a new personal study in an area that requires focused effort, yet brings enjoyment.
Eclipses indicate areas of special focus and potential opportunity in one's personal chart. These powerful activators are in effect for at least six months. Do you know where they fall in your chart? See special offer below.
On August 6, Mars will oppose Uranus in Virgo/Pisces. Some of the surprising events mentioned previously could occur during these few days. This aspect is fairly close to the US Mars/Neptune and transiting Mars activates events. On a personal level, there may be a need to adjust to sudden changes in one's environment. Mercury opposite Neptune that same day brings in the element of possible deception.
On August 16 a Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse, will occur at 24 degrees of Aquarius. Aquarius themes include technology, psychology and astrology, progressive, inventive, independent and futuristic. This eclipse aligns with Neptune, bringing in the possibility of idealism and compassion, but also disillusion. On this same day, Mars is in a challenging alignment with Pluto and whatever occurs now will take on more power and potency.
On August 30, the second New Moon will occur at 8 degrees of Virgo. Virgo themes include work, health, service, being detail-oriented and discernment. This lunation aligns with Saturn, bringing a special focusing and organizing affect to our goals for the coming month. Now there is the opportunity to further ground the learning from last month into one's daily life. Have a wonderful summer!
