January is highlighted by a New Moon Solar Eclipse in mid-month, along with two planetary stations. Jupiter moves into Pisces and the month ends with the second square of Saturn and Pluto. This is a powerful month, with intense planetary energies occurring in mid-month, while several Venus aspects bring more focus to relationships and finances. Since 2010 is a #3 year, communication will be a major theme throughout this year.
The Sun, Mercury, and Venus in alignment with Neptune/Jupiter in the first half of the month are beneficial for getting in touch with your desires and intentions for the coming year. These energies are favorable for journaling, creative visioning or treasure mapping. However, it will be best to postpone action on any identified goals until later in January (when Mercury goes direct) or even until March (when Mars goes direct). Unexpected changes may occur in the next few months that can modify life situations and your own needs/desires may also change. The spring equinox, in mid-March, is viewed as the astrological new beginning for the year.
On January 11 harmonious Venus aligns with both the sun and north node in Capricorn. An opportunity may be presented that brings more love and/or prosperity into your life. Since the node rules relationships, important meetings can occur at this time. A new perspective can also be gained on the role of existing relationships in helping you with important life goals.
Much intense planetary activity is concentrated at mid-month. Saturn turns stationary retrograde on January 13 at 5 Libra, followed by Mercury turning stationary direct on January 15 at 6 Capricorn. As the two planets are in a difficult square aspect, we will experience some communication challenges. However, with Mercury going direct, we can now move forward with taking more tangible steps to manifest our goals.
On January 14, the New Moon Solar Eclipse occurs at 25 Capricorn. Capricorn themes include structure, organization, business, government and being disciplined, organized, goal-oriented and patient. This is an especially powerful eclipse that is enhanced by the above Saturn and Mercury stations. An alignment with Venus can bring significant changes affecting our relationships and finances. Eclipses can bring important new beginnings or endings. According to Celeste Teal in Eclipses, this particular eclipse is rated a 5 on a scale of 1-7. As it is a north node eclipse, the focus is on new energy inflow and new beginnings. The Sabian symbol for this degree suggests an ability to perceive the hidden and creative spirit of natural phenomena.
Jupiter flows into Pisces on January 17 for a year-long sojourn (except for June to mid-September, when it is in Aries). As Jupiter is one of the natural rulers of Pisces, it will function strongly during the coming year, bringing increased growth and expansion. Jupiter also rules how we seek greater truth and meaning in our lives. Pisces brings in the themes of spirituality, compassion, and idealism as well as other dimensions of reality. Expect more focus on psychic abilities, UFOs, shadow people, spirit communications, etc.
The sun and Venus make a harmonious trine with Saturn from January 21-24. This would be a favorable time to begin a new relationship, project or goal, as it is likely to have more permanence and durability. We might also reaffirm what resources are of real value to our lives right now and be willing to recycle the rest. Sustainability is an ongoing theme this year.
The Full Moon occurs on January 30 at 10 Leo. Leo themes include children, leadership, recreation, and creative expression; being playful, generous and seeking recognition. This full moon aligns with Venus and Mars, again highlighting relationships and finances, along with how we use our physical energies (Mars) to obtain goals. The shadow qualities of Leo include being arrogant and the need to dominate people and situations. Now we are being asked to replace these qualities with the Aquarian ideals of openness, tolerance, equality and fairness. The Sabian symbol for this degree in Leo speaks of the power of tradition, symbolized by a huge tree, as it shelters the beginnings of individual self-expression. The Sabian symbol for this degree in Aquarius reminds us of our need to rely upon inner inspiration and guidance at the start of new developments.
The second Saturn/Pluto square occurs on January 31 at 4 Libra/Capricorn. This aspect began last October and the third and last square will be on August 21. The main focus is on the transformation of structures, which can result in power struggles and economic challenges. Pluto promises a new rebirth, but only if we can let go of what no longer serves us. As we release the old, we may also gain a better sense of control over our lives.
February is a calmer month, with not many planetary changes. As we move from the air sign of Aquarius to watery Pisces, our ideas and ideals can be infused with spiritual and compassionate energy. This is especially true the first week of February when a Venus/Neptune alignment in Aquarius brings opportunities for humanitarian service.
The New Moon, which occurs on February 13 at 25 Aquarius, is aligned with Neptune. This is an altruistic combination that asks us to consider the good of the whole in our priorities and actions this month, while being sensitive to individual needs. Aquarius themes include technology, inventions, equality; being independent, unique, objective and progressive. The Sabian symbol for this degree speaks to the skill in applying knowledge of natural laws to the solution of everyday problems resulting from technology. It is favorable to strive for clarity in communications this month as Neptune can bring confusion or deception.
On February 16, Venus/Jupiter in Pisces makes this an especially good day for social events bringing together like-minded others. This is an emotionally sensitive and convivial combination, although there is also a tendency to overdo on food and drink. Creative projects can also flourish at this time.
The Full Moon, which occurs on February 28 at 10 Virgo, is aligned with Jupiter. Virgo themes include health, work, service and animals; being efficient, pragmatic, detail-oriented and critical. The Jupiter aspect encourages us to bring a higher perspective to these life areas and see the growth that has been achieved. The Sabian symbol for this degree speaks to the growth of true understanding (Jupiter), born out of the transcendence of duality even while immersed in the world of duality.
Many blessings to all for a joyful and prosperous year!
