December is highlighted by a Full Moon mutable grand cross and a planetary station on December 31. A strong relationship theme appears in mid-December when Venus in Aquarius aligns with the North Node, Chiron and Neptune.
On December 5 the sun aligns with Mars in Sagittarius. This first energizing impulse of the coming Full Moon features two fiery planetary bodies in the fire sign of Sagittarius. Moving forward with enthusiasm and courage is favored, but overdoing or overextending oneself could lead to painful consequences. Mercury squares Saturn the next day, creating a needed sense of structure and limits. However, one's thinking and outlook tend to be more restrictive. It will be favorable to practice both meditation and moderation over the next several days to successfully navigate this intense cycle with its various peaks and valleys.
The Full Moon occurs on December 12 at 21 Gemini, forming a Grand Cross with the ongoing Saturn/Uranus opposition. This emotionally charged Super Moon is also aligned with Mars. There could be potentially explosive world events, including major earth changes. As the energies of this combination are often quite volatile, it is wise to avoid large crowds, unsafe neighborhoods, angry encounters or other risky endeavors. This will be especially true for those having planets at 18-22 degrees of mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces). This lunation period began with a November 27 New Moon in Sagittarius, so the themes of freedom and independence are highlighted. On a personal level, these energies can motivate one to break free from limitations. Relationships can be adversely affected if there are feelings of restriction, due to a challenging alignment with Venus. Gemini themes for this full moon include communication, local travel, siblings, intellect, lower education, printing, arms and hands; being changeable, diversified and flexible.
On this same day, Mercury aligns with Pluto at 0 Capricorn 33. As this is close to the World Point degree, there could be a public revelation of hidden secrets. This is a good time for research, uncovering mysteries, and using expanded powers of perception for arriving at deeper truths. All writing projects are favored under this influence. There will also be an extra power boost when Pluto aligns with the Winter Solstice sun on December 21-22.
On December 15, the challenging alignment between Saturn and Mars becomes exact. Mars wants to move forward, but Saturn is resistant and has excuses. Since our personal timing can also be off, leave new beginnings for another day. However, energy is available for completing ongoing work projects, especially involving education.
Venus in Aquarius conjoins the North Node on December 17, bringing in more of an altruistic relationship theme. This is favorable for tuning in on how we can use our abilities in service to others. We could also volunteer for a charity or a food bank. Relationships could begin and expand under this transit, although with Aquarius freedom of expression would be emphasized. Venus aligns with Chiron on December 23, bringing awareness of past relationship wounds that need healing. The Venus/Neptune alignment on December 27 can bring deception and illusion to both relationships and finances. However, Neptune can also bring an enhanced intuition for discerning what is needed to create greater harmony and unity in these areas.
The New Moon occurs on December 27 at 6 Capricorn. It is aligned with both Mars and Pluto, making this another powerful lunation that can trigger major world events. Capricorn themes include the government, career and employment, managers, organizations, real estate and the economy; being ambitious, dutiful, controlling, reserved, responsible and seeking security.
The Mars/Pluto alignment in Capricorn can manifest as power plays and self-destructive behavior. On a personal level, it gives great drive and ambition for beginning personal projects and goals. This energy can also be used to purge and eliminate what is not needed. Taking practical, measured steps toward our goals is favored. A stationary Saturn on December 31 brings in a slower, steadier energy for greater productivity.
The month ends with a lively pairing of Mercury and Jupiter in Capricorn on December 31. It is time to engage our creative imaginations to visualize new dreams for the coming year. The earthy Capricorn energy helps us ground them more securely for practical manifestation in our daily lives.
