The March New Moon is likely to initiate some significant and powerful changes that will occur over the coming month. This lunation, occurring on March 7 at 17 degrees and 31 minutes of Pisces, will align with Uranus, the planet of change and upheaval. On that same day Pluto opposes Mars, also activating the world point degree. Expect some significant power plays and shifts at this time, both in the world and in our personal relationships. Pisces themes include spirituality, spirit guides, unity, oneness, surrender, escapism and feeling victimized.
The Mars/Pluto opposition, which first occurred last fall, now activates the signs of Cancer and Capricorn. This water/earth axis deals with our feelings of security on all levels, while the Mars/Pluto energy brings in the dimension of power and control. The challenge is whether we can mobilize our sense of personal power to look beyond our fears of creating insecurity to address a need for positive change in our lives. At this time we can effectively look at our beliefs about the use of power. Does it look different when used by women or minorities? Although many of us have experienced the abuse of power, power can also be harnessed to create beneficial changes for ourselves and others. This is a good time for healing past life memories of power abuse so one can achieve more balance in this area. We can also look at how we can work together in a more cooperative fashion so we can move beyond our perceived differences.
A significant time for relationships occurs March 15-18 when Venus and Mercury in Pisces oppose Saturn in Virgo and trine Mars in Cancer. This can be expressed as the contrast between "being" versus "doing," with the latter being given more status in our society. As a water sign, Pisces is emotionally focused and sensitive, while earthy Virgo seeks to structure, criticize and create busyness. This contrast can exist within our selves, as well as our outer relationships. The trine to Mars brings more energy for positive change, as both sides can learn to value each other's priorities so they can work together to achieve common goals.
The Full Moon occurs on March 21, a few days after the Equinox, at 1 degree 31 minutes of Libra. Since this lunation is in a challenging alignment with Pluto, we continue with the theme of power and control in our relationships over the next few weeks. The Libra focus is on balance, harmony, beauty and communication. Bringing some grace into our relationships may go a long way now.
The last half of March features a favorable alignment of Mercury, Venus, and Uranus in Pisces with Jupiter in Capricorn. This water/earth blend of energies allows us to take more of an intuitive approach with our life goals and in our relationships. Opportunities can now come to us from unexpected sources, provided we have done the right groundwork. As the asteroid Vesta also joins this alignment, we are reminded to honor tradition as we move forward in new directions.
April begins with a stationary Pluto, which goes retrograde on April 2 at 1 degree of Capricorn. Pluto will be moving through Capricorn until June 13 when it returns for a brief final passage in Sagittarius before returning to Capricorn in late November. We are getting our share of Pluto lessons this season as we deal with profound inner and outer changes. These profound changes will affect the Capricorn areas of government and big business over the course of this sixteen-year passage.
The New Moon occurs on April 5 at 17 degrees of Aries. The Equinox or the first Aries New Moon can be thought of as the astrological "new year," as these times are more potent in energy than the traditional one in January. Aries is the sign of new beginnings and we can confidently move forward in some bolder new directions at this time. Since this lunation is in a challenging alignment with Jupiter, we will have to watch out for going to extremes in our efforts. Aries rules pioneers, leadership and seeking independence and freedom. The aspects this month are very favorable for energetic action. The Full Moon occurs on April 20 at 1 degree of Scorpio. This lunation has a favorable alignment with both Pluto and Saturn. This is an excellent energy for laying foundations and securing resources for the grounding of our plans and goals. We can also achieve the cooperation of significant others who would further our efforts. Blessings for a joyous Spring season.
